I was born in Springfield, Illinois on December 5, 1965. Growing up I enjoyed Gymnastics, Soccer and singing with friends. I graduated from Sacred Heart Academy in Springfield - Class of 1984. After high school I moved to Florida with my parents.
As a young girl, my friends and I would record ourselves singing along with songs by The Partridge Family, The Jackson 5, Barbara Streisand, etc..... We would then make up dance routines to put on a show for our friends and families.
During my high school years I was very active in Chorus, Church Choir and the Glee Club, which gave me the opportunity to sing solo in different styles of music. The audience response gave me confidence and helped me realize that I should pursue a singing career. During this pursuit of becoming a big star, I had to make a living and attended a Nursing school in Florida. While I was working as a Nurse, I sang with Bands and Karaoke shows as often as possible.
In 1989 while vacationing on the Dolphin Cruise Line, my sister and participated in almost every activity including a singing contest and came is first place. The Cruise Director offered me a job as an Assistant Cruise Director. I accepted the offer and became the Dolphin Cruise Line Entertainment Coordinator and a Vocalist in the Mirimar Lounge on the ship.
In 1991 I established my own entertainment company, "Music By Darla" performing as a DJ, MC and Vocalist. With an extensive selection of Karaoke songs to choose from, I worked in Bars nightly. After a couple years of the club scene, I decided to expand my venues to weddings, and private parties, but still offer Karaoke as an option.
In 1997, while performing at a company Christmas Party in Tampa, I met another Disc Jockey named Mike Sean - Owner of Crew Entertainment. He began to refer me as a Vocalist, DJ and KJ through Crew Entertainment. We worked well together at several corporate and private functions incorporating our unique styles into one exciting show. We then merged our two businesses under the well established name of Crew Entertainment in the Tampa Bay area.
I have enjoyed singing and entertaining for many clients over the years. It is a big part of who I am and I feel it is God given. I can't imagine what I would have done to make a living if not for singing.
