I was born in Tampa, Fl on
September 15, 1966. Growing up I played Baseball, Football and loved
antique cars. I graduated form H. B. Plant High School in Tampa -
Class of 1985.
How did I become a DJ?
Good question. Well......
In 1979, I assisted a DJ
friend at wedding receptions and parties just for fun. I realized that
I enjoyed the work and could make extra money. When I
turned 15 years old in 1981, I bought my own equipment and began to provide
a service for friends and family members. In 1982, the name CREW
ENTERTAINMENT originated from a bunch of high school buddies getting
together and organizing a teen club to provide teen dance parties once a
month. The guy who started this club quit and I was voted President
and eventually Owner of "The Crew Club Of Tampa Bay".
Three years later, while
attending college in 1985, I got a job as a DJ in a Tampa night club - four
nights a week- while DJing weddings and parties for private and corporate
functions on the weekends. For the next 4 years, I was a weekend DJ
for Crew
Entertainment functions, attended college for my engineering degree and spun
music at five different night clubs in the Tampa Bay area. In 1989, I receiving
my AA Degree in Engineering and decided to become a Firefighter/EMT so that
I could continue to DJ on my off days between shifts. After my EMT and Firefighter Certification was completed, I was
placed on a two year waiting list for employment. During this two
years, several people who heard me as a DJ said, "You have a
great voice and personality, why don't you go on radio or
television". So I did, I enrolled in a Broadcasting School and
took Mass Communications classes at a local Jr. College - HCC.
In 1990, I landed my first
radio job with Jacor Communications WFLA News Radio 970 and at that
time Power 93 - The Power Pig WFLZ. I received my Mass Comm. and
Broadcasting Degree while working with Jacor Communications. During this time I continued to DJ CREW
ENTERTAINMENT functions on the weekends. After
10 months in radio, my annual salary was only $12,000... max, "Thank God
for Crew Entertainment still going strong on the weekends".
Towards the end of 1990, I
got the chance to audition
for a DJ position at the world famous Walt Disney World- Pleasure
Island. Almost 100 Disc Jockeys from all over the US tried out for the
job and guess who got it? .......Yep, I was the new Pleasure Island - Pl live
DJ with Saturday and Sunday Nights off so that I could continue to DJ Crew Entertainment
functions on the weekends. Things were great but I still wanted to be the next David
Letterman or Howard Stern. So I left Disney and went back in to radio
and hosted a Television talk show to make my mark. From 1993 to
1999 I was on the air at various radio stations such as AM 1150 WTMP-mid-day,
WWRM 94.9 FM & Coast 107.3FM-Traffic and over nights, The Point
102.5-nights, Oldies 106.3-Mid-day&Production, Oldies Radio
U92-Afternoons, Mix 96 - Part time, Kiss 100.7 Part time and ALWAYS
CREW ENTERTAINMENT.
Now it's the Millennium...yep,
look at me, I'm not famous, not rich but I have enjoyed my journey. I truly
believe that God has his hands on our lives and no matter how many wrong
turns we make in life, he will keep giving us the opportunity to follow the
path that is intended for us. I am very grateful that I had Crew
Entertainment functions to keep me going for almost Twenty years through the
good and the bad. Being a Disc Jockey for weddings, parties, corporate
functions, on-air Radio or TV Hosting and Video Production gave me the
experience and credentials to take pride in my work, my way of living.
I have built and will continue to build a customer-friendly
service, that will create memories for a long time. Thank you for
your time!
